Biography

He was born in Corfu in 1962. As a child, his first musical steps involved the traditional band. Following, he came to Athens and studied lessons on the trumpet, the piano and theoretical classes. Finally, his musical sensitivity led him to conquer creativity through the advanced level knowledge of musical science. Costas Agouridis

He studied Advanced Theory at hte Conservatories "Apollonio" and "Elliniko" with professors A. Laskaridi and A. Papanikolaou, where from he obtained the following degrees: Harmony, Singing, Instrumentation, Orchestration and Band Direction, Counterpoint, Fugue and Orchestration, with academic excellence. He continued his studies in Composition and Conducting at the National Conservatory of Athens woth Theodore Antoniou, from he obtained the degree in Composition with academic excellence, July 1991. He completed his post-graduate studies in Composition, as well as Concducting with the same professor in 1993.

From 1986 to 1990, he involved himself systemiatically in the study of Modern Jazz. He also attended many seminars on Modern Music, conducted by famous national Greek and Foreign Composers.

He continued his studies in Conducting in operatic repertoire and modern techniques, with I.Voudouris, the conductor of the National Greek Opera.

He completed his studies in Composition, Analysis and Conducting at the University of Belgrade with professors Srdan Hofman, Zoran Eric and Raico Maksimovic, from where he graduated with a Master of Arts degree, with a major in Composition.

He involved himself in all modern musical waves in an attempt to develp a personal progressive musical style. He has written symphonic music and chamber music, works for small and large parts, works for vocals, for solo instruments, choruses etc. Many of these are dedications to musical organizations and other foundataions (Union of the Greek Composers, Union of Yugoslavian Composers, Megaro Mousikis of Athens, Greek Radio and Thelevision of the 3rd Program etc.)

In 1990, he was a finalist in the Panhellenic Contest of Compositions G. A. Papaioannou. In 1992, he was, agiain, a finalist in the National Contest of Composition ALEA III, at the University of Boston.

In 1994, he took part in the 3rd National Festival of Contemporary Music, that was held in Belgrade, after a request by the Composors of N.Yugoslavia Union.

In 1995, he achieved a new distinction in the Panhellenic contest of Composition which was organized by the Petroleum Company B.P., for young composers up to 35 years old.

His works have been performed in Greece and other countries such as Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Germany, England, USA. Many of these works have been performed and recorded for the 3rd Program of the Greek Radio and Television. Some other of his works are inscribed and teached in the music departments of the University of Holland, the University of Athens and Ionian University. His work "Good and Bad Weather", in poetry by C.Kavafis is included in the Library of Alexandria, Egypt.

His career in Conducting started in 1993, when he conducted some of his works in the Hellenic-American Union, under the patronage of the Greek Composers Union. He has conducted the Camerata, String Orchestra of the Megaro Mousikis of Athens. Also he was invited to conduct one of his works in Belgrade, in the National Festival of Contemporary Music.

He teaches Chamber music, Advanced theory and Composition in "Apollonio" Conservatory and the Municipal Conservatory of Agios Dimitrios. He is the manager at the Conservatory of Synchronous Musical Education and was once manager at the Concervatory of Messinia and the at the Municipal Conservatories of Filiaton, Igoumenitsas and Kallitheas.

Also, he conducts chamber music groups and choirs. He has been the maestro of the choir of the Municipality of Perama, the choir of Sivitanidios Public School, etc. At the moment he is the conductor of the Muncipal choirs of the Municipality of Dafni and the Choir of the Olympic Airways, and also he is the maestro of the Muncipal Band of the Muncipality of Agios Dimitrios.

He is a frequent member of the Greek Composers Union and member of the Professors Association of Legible Conservatories (S.K.O.A.). He is registered in the biographical dictionary Who's Who (Metro edition) and the Dictionary of Greek Composers (Filippos Nakas edition).
